Advice Weekly #5: Wearing Glasses

You may be at a point in your life where you find out that you need to wear glasses. First of all, don't panic! Glasses are really cool and you're not a nerd if you wear them. They're something you need to help you see and can come in all sorts of shapes and colors so don't be nervous.

You may find out that you only need reading glasses but you can also need permanent glasses too. Reading glasses are only used for when you need to read and you can take them off when you're done. Permanent glasses, however, mean that you need to wear them all the time, except when sleeping. This can be because you have blurry vision or are far sighted or near sighted.

You can figure out if you need glasses by looking out for certain signs like blurry vision or you frequently squinting. Farsightedness & nearsightedness are common ways to tell. If you are far sighted, this means that objects far away from you are clear and ones that are near are not. If you are near sighted, this is the opposite, meaning that objects far away are unclear and objects near you are. If you experience any of these signs, you probably want to talk to your mom who can arrange for you have to have an eye appointment.

If you have to get glasses, you will visit an eye doctor who will check your eyes, give you some results, and then have you get prescription glasses. It's always good to get glasses that are prescription because they work well and won't cause problems like the drugstore ones. A great thing about glasses is that there are many different styles and colors. Rectangles, oval and circular frames and colors in pink, purple, blue, green, patterns, and more. You can try on tons of glasses until you find the ones that fit you best and are comfortable. You probably will receive a case for them as well but if you don't, you probably want to buy one especially if you have reading glasses.

When you wear glasses for the first few days, things may seem a bit awkward. It might take some time to get used to them. And you may also experience headaches but that's normal because your eyes are just adjusting to your new glasses. It's also good that you wear them at the times when your doctor says you need to because you can have eye problems when you don't and it's usually best to follow the doctor's instructions. Last of all, don't worry about the negative comments you may get because there's nothing bad or embarrassing about glasses. It will take others around you to get used to them but soon they'll forget you used to not wear glasses in the first place! I hope this post helps with people who are getting glasses or have just received some. If you have any questions or comments, comment below or send an email to everythingagirldreamsof@gmail.com.

All About: Sunglasses

Sunglasses! There are many different types of sunglasses and I will be explaining all the types and which types best fit your face shape.

Aviators

These types of sunglasses fit pretty much any face shape, (heart, round, oval, and square.) These are both-gendered glasses so make sure that when you're buying, you get the ones for females. Egg shaped lenses fit people who have a pointy chin or strong jaw. Rectangle aviator lenses are great on a round face.

Wayfarers

These are probably the most popular glasses out right now. They can come as sunglasses or with clear lenses. A lot of people are wearing these now. I like these glasses too because they can come in different colors and patterns and because they are popular so people like them. There are still different kinds of lens shapes for wayfarer glasses though. This is only one variation. Rounded wayfarer lenses are best for square faces. And the ones you see above fit round faces very well. Thick and tall lenses for these glasses are for oval shaped faces.

Oversized

Oversized lenses are pretty popular too and are probably my favorite cause you can never go wrong with these. Circular lenses for these are best with angular faces. Geometrically shaped frames are amazing on round faces. The ones you see above look good on heart shaped faces.

Cat Eye

I don't like cat eye glasses much but others do so of course I'm going to include it. The ones above go with a round face, sweetheart frames are good for square jaws, and small winged lenses/frames fit an oval face. I hope this post helps you out and you can choose the right sunglasses for you.

All About: Maxi Dresses

Not every girl likes maxi dresses, I personally don't, but other girls do so I'm going to do a post on them.

What are maxi dresses: Maxi dresses, as you can tell in the picture, are long dresses that are worn in the summer time. They look best with sunglasses and sandals. Heeled shoes aren't the best choice when wearing maxi dresses. Belts can help the dress show your body shape and you can go for strapless, sleeveless, sleeved, floral, plain, and more.

Where to buy them: Love Culture, Gap, Forever 21, everywhere. Just be careful when walking cause they're easy to trip on!

Shoe Sunday #2: Sandals

Sorry about the quality of the photo (it was a fade effect that looks much better on my iPod), but since its summer, almost everyone wears sandals (or flip-flops, but that can be another post). You can buy sandals anywhere. Marshalls, Gap, Forever 21, Claires, and much more. You can get all different types too like backless, beaded, strappy, and more. You can wear whatever suits you and what ever is most comfortable.

Craving #1: High Low Skirts

Lately, I've been seriously craving high low skirts! I think they're really cute. I just don't know the places to buy them. I bought an orange one at Dots, but they didn't have that many choices. So I did some looking around and I found some places. Forever 21, Love Culture, and tons more stores sell these cute skirts in different styles and colors. So buy some!

Makeup Monday #1: How To Get Perfect Lashes

This is my first Makeup Monday post and it's going to be about lashes. Lashes are a signature look in makeup and if you don't use makeup, my Makeup Monday posts will help you out with that and give you tips and advice.

Curling Lashes

Before applying mascara or doing anything to your lashes, you want to curl them with an eyelash curler.

These are really easy to find and you can buy them for under $7 at Target, Walmart, Walgreens, or CVS, pretty much any drugstore.

To use an eyelash curler you want to open your eye and position your eyelashes in between the two clamps. Hold it there for 10 seconds and then release. This is hard to explain in words but I'm pretty sure that the curler you buy will have instructions for use or you can find it on YouTube.

Mascara

There are tons of types of mascaras, voluminous, lengthening, defining, curling, and more. The brush is also different in these types. I will probably do a post on these types of mascaras.

Anyways, you can buy mascara at any drugstore or makeup shop. To apply it you want to dip the brush into the bottle until it is completely coated. Open your eye and then brush the mascara on your lashes starting from the roots to the end. Shift it left to right so you can get them all coated. Do the same on your lower lashes.

Fake Lashes

This is optional but if you want to choose fake lashes, then go ahead. I know that ELF has some really nice ones for a reasonable price.

To apply the lashes, squeeze a bit of the eyelash glue that usually comes with the lashes onto the curved part of the lashes. Smooth out the glue and then apply it as close as you can to the roots of your eyelashes but not on the lid. Adjust them until they fit right and look appropriate. Do the other eye and then add mascara.

Hair Care Weekly #4: Ways To Curl Your Hair

There are many ways to curl your hair using heat. There are curling irons, curling wands, rollers, hot rollers, flat irons, and more. This post will show you how to curl your hair many different ways.

Pre-Step: This is a pre-step for every way to curl your hair. You want to make sure that you straighten your hair stick straight before doing these because it will make the hair curl nicely and look better. Also comb your hair through and make sure it is detangled.

Curling Irons

Curling irons are probably the most popular hair curling tool. They're also probably the most difficult but becomes easy after you get the hang of it.

Step 1: Purchase a good curling iron. You want to make sure you get something that's not too cheap and is reliable.

Step 2: Use a heat protector on your hair.

Step 3: Plug in your curling iron.

Step 4: Right after plugging it in put the right heat settings on according to your hair texture and style.

Step 5: After the iron heats up, take a small piece of your hair and hold the handle of the iron. Press down on the handle until it opens, then wrap the hair around the tube-like end and press it down with the handle. After a few seconds, release and gently unwind and there you have your curl. You most likely want to do this in front of a mirror.

Step 6: Continue Step 5 all around your head till all of your hair is curled. Then spray it up with a shine spray or holding spray or volumizing spray.

Hair Rollers

This is the easiest but most uncomfortable way to curl your hair - rollers.

Step 1: Purchase a pack of plastic or foam & plastic rollers. Remember that rollers come in all different sizes. If you want big curls, get big rollers. If you want smaller curls, get smaller rollers. Roller sizes also depend on your hair length and you want to make sure to buy enough for your hair.

Step 2: Start with a small section of your hair and hold it firmly in your hand. Take a roller and starting at the ends of your hair, wrap the strand of hair around the roller till it reaches your roots. Then clip it in. Rollers usually have a way to clip, it just depends on which type you buy.

Step 3: Repeat Step 2 until you've rolled all of your hair.

Step 4: Wrap your hair in a bandanna or something so that the rollers won't move or fall out while sleeping.

Step 5: Go to sleep. Try not to move your head much because it will most likely destroy the curls and have the rollers fall out.

Step 6: In the morning, gently unclip the rollers and wind the hair off. Spray with a shine, volume, or holding spray.

Flat Irons

Curling hair with a flat iron is almost as easy as regularly flat ironing your hair.

Step 1: Apply a heat protectant to your hair.

Step 2: Take a small piece of your hair. Run the flat iron to almost the end of your hair. Turn the flat iron upward while it still holds onto the hair. Wrap the hair around the flat iron. Hold and then gently release.

Step 3: Continue Step 2 around the rest of your hair until its all curled.

Step 4: Add a volumizing spray.

Curling Wands

Curling wands are really similar to curling irons, just simpler to use.

Step 1: Purchase a decent curling wand.

Step 2: Section your hair into small pieces.

Step 3: Take one piece and wind it around the wand.

Step 4: Hold it there for a short amount of time, usually the instructions will say how long to hold it there depending on the heat setting.

Step 5: Gently release and unwind.

Step 6: Continue around the rest of your hair.

Step 7: Apply a volumizing, holding, or shine spray.

Hot Rollers

These are similar to regular rollers, but they're just heated.

Step 1: Choose and buy hot rollers. Buy the size that you want depending on the size of the curls you want.

Step 2: Plug in your rollers and they will begin to heat.

Step 3: Apply a heat protectant.

Step 4: Section of the hair. You can use clips to keep it out of your way.

Step 5: When the rollers are heated, wrap your hair around it just like you would do with regular rollers.

Step 6: Put in a bobby pin to hold it in place.

Step 7: Finish the rest of your hair.

Step 8: Leave the rollers in until they are completely cooled down. You cannot sleep in these.

Step 9: Remove the rollers and apply a holding, volumizing, or shine spray.

Tips

  • The smaller pieces of hair you use, the more curls you'll achieve.
  • Afterwards, style your hair in a way you can show off the curls.

Warnings

  • Be careful not to burn yourself. If you think its a better choice, have an adult like your mom, or aunt, or grandmother do your hair for you.
  • Never leave heated items unattended.
  • Don't leave or rest heated items next to any liquids.
  • Set down heated items on towel when not using, even if plugged in.
  • After use, wait until item is completely cooled down before putting away.

Skin Care Weekly #4: 3 Facial Masks For All Skin Types

In this post, I will be showing 5 different facial masks that you can apply to your face no matter what skin type you have. This is gonna be a long post, but I hope it's helpful.

Pre-Step: Dampen a washcloth in warm water and let it rest on your face for about a minute. This will open up your pores.

Yogurt Facial Mask

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon of natural yogurt that can't be low-fat or nonfat
  • 1 teaspoon of honey

Step 1: Mix the yogurt and the honey together.

Step 2: Using your fingers, apply the mixture to your face. Don't pack it on, you don't want a thick layer.

Step 3: Let the mixture set on your face for 15 minutes.

Step 4: Gently remove the mixture from your face with a warm soaked washcloth.

White Sugar Facial Mask

Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons of white sugar
  • 3 tablespoons of warm water

Step 1: Mix the sugar into the water until it dissolves.

Step 2: Apply it to the face with your fingers and gently massage it in.

Step 3: Use a warm soaked washcloth to gently remove the mask from your face.

Turmeric Facial Mask

Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons of flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • About 4 drops of honey
  • For dry skin: 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • For oily skin: 1/4 cup of plain yogurt and a few drops of lemon juice

Step 1: Combine the flour and turmeric

Step 2 For Oily Skin: Combine the lemon juice and mix. Add in the yogurt until it has a paste-like consistency.

Step 2 For Dry Skin: Mix in the oil. Mix until you have a paste-like consistency.

Step 3: Apply to face.

Step 4: Let it set for 15 minutes.

Step 5: Since turmeric stains, remove the mask with a warm soaked face mask that you won't mind staining.

Celeb Wear Weekly #1: Taylor Swift

We all know that Taylor Swift is known for wearing a lot of floral dresses. It's pretty much her signature style. That's why I chose her for this Celeb Wear Weekly post. If you have ideas on celebs that I should talk about, email me or comment below and I will choose your idea. My email is located in the Contact Me section of my blog.

I really like the dress that Taylor is wearing in this pic. I especially love the colors. Forever21's site has tons of floral dresses, I know, I always talk about Forever 21. The Loft's site also has some and so does JCPenney's and Chico's.

All About: Rompers

Rompers are a really popular trend in the summer time. And since it's a little over a month till summer arrives,  why not talk about rompers? Basically, a romper is a shirt and shorts combined to make a really loose fitting item of clothing.

There are tons of kinds of rompers: one shoulder, strapless, sleeveless, short sleeved, and tons more. Forever 21 has over a 100 rompers to choose from on their site. Simply go to forever21.com and run your mouse over "Clothing" and then select "Jumpsuits & Rompers."

There are many different ways to wear rompers, with scarves, hats, glasses, heels, and especially with belts, the most popular choice. These kinds of accessories can be found pretty much anywhere.

Here's a model wearing a romper, and I love the way this looks. You might too, so try it out! Buy yourself a romper before summer starts.

DIY: How To Put Together Arm Candy

Alright, this isn't technically a DIY but I'm going to consider it one. This post will show you how to put together arm candy. And if you don't know what that means, its basically just a word for tons of bracelets and a watch and accessories that you can put on your arm.

Step 1: Metal bracelets! This step is really easy and all you need are cute metallic bracelets. You can get gold or silver, it doesn't matter. They can have words or designs too. You can definitely find tons of these at Forever 21.

Step 2: Add a men-inspired watch. Basically, just add a manly-ish watch. It adds a really cute touch. You can find these at jewelry stores or wherever you want that sells watches that are men-inspired.

Step 3: Add bling! This is the last step but probably the most important. The girly bling is perfect with the watch and you can find bling bracelets at Forever 21 or any place that sells accessories.

This is a perfect example of well put together arm candy. Even though she only has a few bracelets, this person created a nice look with all the steps required. I hope this post helps! Send pics of your arm candy to my email in the Contact Us page and I will post it on Google + or in my blog!
