Dry skin can get worse in the wind, sun, or cold, UV radiation from tanning beds, indoor heating, long hot showers, ingredients in soaps and cosmetics, and some medications.

- Don't let the temperature inside your home get too hot
- Take shorter showers and baths
- Use gentle soaps and cleansers.
- Don't use deodorant soap on the areas that are affected.
- Don't scrub your skin when you're bathing or drying.
- Apply a rich moisturizer to your face after washing. Do this twice a day.
- If you also have dry skin on other parts of your body like arms, legs, and hands, apply rich lotion throughout the day to those areas.
